Westchester County PCB Task Force 2006

In the Spring of 2006, at the request of the Westchester County Committee on the Environment & Energy a PCB Task Force was established.

PBC TASK FORCE MISSION STATEMENT

The PCB (polychlorinated biphenyl) Task Force of the Board’s Committee on the Environment & Energy is established to bring together Westchester residents and organizations who are concerned about PCB-laden caulk, particularly in schools and on school grounds, for the purpose of formulating a strategy to foster regulation and remediation strategies for the Committee to pursue with the U.S. EPA, state and local regulatory agencies.

The Task Force will utilize the most recent data and best science available to identify areas and circumstances of contamination that pose a health threat to Westchester’s residents. It will devise a plan of action, including draft legislation, regulations and the required measures to remediate such contamination. The Task Force will pay particular attention to caulk, soil and the indoor environment in schools, and the negative health effects PCBs may have, particularly on children and school employees. The impact of PCB exposure on adults of child bearing age and pregnant women will be investigated.

The Task Force will present a report outlining its findings and proposals, including all back up documentation, to the Environment & Energy Committee.
